Our Mission Flint River Habitat works in partnership with people needs to eliminate sub-standard housing in Dougherty and Lee Counties.
Habitat defines sub-standard housing as housing in poor physical condition, overcrowded conditions (more than 2 same sex children or boy and girl in one bed room) and dangerous neighborhoods.
History Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in homelessness wordlwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walkd of life to work together in partnership, building houses with families in need. Flint River Habitat founded in 1986, is part of a growing Habitat family. Flint River Habitat's work over the years has resulted in the over 100 homes being constructed in Albany.
How We Do It Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent houses with the help of our homeowners. Our houses are sold to families/individuals at no profit, and financed with affordable, no interest loans. The homeowner's monthly mortgage payments are then recycled into a fund that is used to continue our building efforts. |
